cprob Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) Hi Guys, Just a quick point for debate: How many miles would you reasonably expect to get out of a diesel engine? My AHU has done about 185k and it's always been maintained with regular services and oil changes etc. Who out there holds the record for the most miles???? :) Cheers,Robin Edited July 24, 2011 by cprob Quote
Mirez Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Well maintained ones should be able to crack 500K without a problem. There is a Mk2 Taxi locally which had 675K on it last time I was in - original engine and box, 4th clutch though lol. Quote
cprob Posted July 24, 2011 Author Report Posted July 24, 2011 Blimey! That's a lot of miles!! Mine's still got the original clutch at 185k and 3rd gear is grating a bit, other than that I'm hoping it'll go on for a few more years. That reminds me, I need to invest in some Waxoyl :) Cheers,Robin. Quote

I found the underseal had split/cracked - probably due to dealeares/kwikfit jacking up on them. Peel back the underseal and there is likely to be lots of rust. This needs properly cleaning and treating - I used hammerite which is not all that good, but much better than waxoyl. Waxoyl is a waste of time unless its for inside a box member. Quote
